Low Noise Ball Screw - SFS Series
Packaging lines, lab automation, medical stages and 3D printers often run in rooms where people work all day. On those machines a ball screw that rattles at speed is not just annoying - it is usually the first thing a customer complains about after delivery.
The SFS series is listed in our catalogue as the high speed, low noise flange nut line. It covers shaft sizes from 12 mm to 50 mm, with standard leads from 5 mm up to equal-lead versions such as 1616, 2020, 2525, 3232, 4040 and 5050 for fast transfer axes.
How to Read an SFS Model Number
Take SFS2010-3.8 as an example:
- 20 - nominal shaft size, 20 mm
- 10 - lead, 10 mm of travel per revolution
- 3.8 - ball circuit count printed in the catalogue as 3.8×1
The circuit number matters more than most buyers expect. On the same 20 mm shaft, SFS2005-3.8 is rated at 1484 kgf dynamic load, while the 20 mm lead SFS2020-1.8 drops to 764 kgf, because fewer loaded ball turns fit inside a nut of practical length. Faster lead, lower load capacity - check both before you order.

Picking Between Neighbouring Sizes
Two pairs in the table are worth a second look.
SFS4005 vs SFS4010. Same 40 mm shaft, but the 10 mm lead version runs 6.35 mm balls instead of 3.175 mm. Its dynamic rating jumps from 2018 to 5035 kgf. If your 40 mm axis carries real load, the 4010 is often the better nut even when you don't need the extra speed.
SFS2005 vs SFS2505. Ratings are close (1484 vs 1650 kgf), but the 25 mm shaft is stiffer against buckling and whip on long strokes. On travel over roughly one metre, size the shaft for critical speed first, then pick the nut.
What Low Noise Does Not Fix
A quieter nut will not hide installation problems. Misalignment between the screw and the linear guides, a coupling running off-centre, dry grease or a screw spinning near its critical speed will all make noise no matter which series you buy. If an existing axis is loud, check those first.
